SMALL GROUP RESOURCES

Here are some resources that might be useful to work through with your small group. There’s no obligation to work your way through this list; we recognise that all small groups are different, so some of these ideas might work with yours, and other resources might work better with other groups.

Also, this isn’t an exhaustive list; we’re always on the lookout for other good resources, so please do send over anything you’ve found useful.

If you’d like a chat about any of this, feel free to contact Nath.

Chalke Talk
Over the last couple of years Steve recorded 95 short talks on the church (lucky him!) – they’re about 10 mins long, and they all end with a few questions. All you need is a laptop or a smart TV and your small group prep is done! Click here to view them.

Bible overview books
We often get asked about books that help us get a better understanding of the Bible and what it means. Here are a couple of good ones which your small group could go through, a chapter at a time:

Rob Bell – What is the Bible? (there’s even a group discussion guide here!)
Pete Enns – The Bible Tells Me So (slightly more detailed than the Rob Bell one, but still accessible)
Rachel Held Evans – Inspired

Podcasts
Here are a few good podcasts – pick an episode, listen to it in advance and discuss!

Oasis Church Waterloo (obviously)
The Bible For Normal People
Homebrewed Christianity
Rob Bell
The Liturgists
Nomad

Practical formation
Lectio Divina is a method of reading the Bible, encouraging people to spend more time with scripture. It can be great in a group setting – here’s an example of how it could be used.
Free, by Mark Scandrette – also has material that’s adaptable for small groups.
Practicing the Way of Jesus, also by Mark Scandrette.
Planetcarers course, by A Rocha.
Renovare resources around spiritual formation.
Ninefold Path resource based around the Beatitudes.
