Commitment statements
On Sunday 31 January’s Global Gathering we invited people to commit to being part of our Oasis communities for the next year, by reading these four statements and responding by saying “With God’s help, and with the help of the community around us, we will.”
Formation
We commit to developing and deepening our character – through living in the example of Jesus. We commit to trying to live lives characterised by joy, humility, patience, consideration, self-control, compassion, honesty, forgiveness and hope, and we acknowledge that this doesn’t happen by accident – we commit to working to develop these traits, and to making them regular habits.
With God’s help, and with the help of the community around us, we will.
Participation
We commit to being open to joining in, to being known and seen, by God and others. We commit to collaborating in the work of redeeming creation, and to bringing a unique and crucial contribution to our shared task. We commit to finding the part that each one of us has to play, not as spectators but as participants, called to join the family business.
With God’s help, and with the help of the community around us, we will.
Giving
We commit to being generous with what we have, to working to cultivate a spirit of generosity. We commit to showing the tangible proof of our love for the less fortunate holy ones, practically showing that love to those who need it.
With God’s help, and with the help of the community around us, we will.
Community
We are not doing any of this alone. We come from different walks of life, but we commit to walking alongside others, as one. We say “I’m in”, we commit to playing our part in a community that loves each other, that cares about each other, that genuinely and wholeheartedly wants the absolute best for each and every one of us. We commit to helping to build a space where all are known, accepted, nurtured and held to account.
With God’s help, and with the help of the community around us, we will.
